Snow classes are read from the revised global Seasonal Snow Climate Classification System (Sturm & Liston 2021, J. Hydrometeorology; NSIDC-0768 dataset). Coverage embedded in this page: North America at 1 km resolution, Eurasia at 5 km. NSIDC class names are mapped to SNOdar settings as follows: Montane Forest → Alpine, Boreal Forest → Taiga. Reference stations shown are 907 NRCS SNOTEL sites with their published snow classifications.
